yi.org Help: Using The Admin Section

The yi.org Admin Section (http://www.yi.org/admin/) allows you to configure your account and all hosts and domains that you own. The Administration Interface is broken up into 4 sections; Account, Domains, Hosts, and Contacts.

Account

The Account section gives you statistical information on what you currently have registered in your account. From the Account section, you can also change your password, preferred language, or email address, or switch to a Namespace Management screen for any one of your domains.

Domains

The Domains section lists all domains that you have registered with yi.org for either Domain Registration or DNS Hosting services. Clicking on any domain name on the list will bring you to a Namespace Management screen for that domain, and clicking on the expiry date will bring you to a page where you can add years onto your domain's service.

Hosts

The Hosts section allows you to create new hosts, and edit host records you currently own.

Creating a New Host

Creating a new host involves specifying three pieces of information:

  1. Name: Enter the name of the host you wish without it's domain extension into the "Name:" box (example; "mycoolpage"). Then, select the domain you wish to create the host inside from the drop-down selection to the right of the "Name:" box (example; ".yi.org").
  2. Start IP: This field is optional. If you want this hostname to have it's IP address set as soon as it's created, enter the IP here.
  3. Wildcard Too: Select this checkbox if you want wildcards (*.mycoolpage.yi.org) enabled on the hostname when it is created. If you select this option, all hostnames beneath your new hostname will point to the same IP address as the hostname itself. (example; "www.mycoolpage.yi.org", "ftp.mycoolpage.yi.org", "space-sushi.mycoolpage.yi.org", etc, would all point to "mycoolpage.yi.org").

When you have selected the appropriate options for your new host, click on "Create". If the creation of the host is successful, you will be placed in a Namespace Management screen for that host. If there were any errors, a page will come up letting you know; click on the "Back" button in your browser (or on the "Hosts" tab at the top of the Admin section) to return to the Hosts Section.

Navigating the Host List

The Host Listing will show you all of the hosts you have created in all domains. The following fields are displayed: #,Name, Enabled, Type, Hosts, Address, and Created.

Namespace, RR and SOA Management Screens

These screens are where the majority of the configuration for your hostnames happen. The Namespace pages provide summaries on settings for the namespace, as well as allowing you to create new RR records (A (IP), MX, CNAME, etc) records for that namespace. The RR management pages allow you to configure each RR record in a namespace individually. The SOA management pages allow you to configure Statement Of Authority (SOA) record settings for Zones. Click on the links below for a seperate help page on each:

Contacts

This section of the Admin section gives you a complete list of your Domain contacts and allows you to make changes to them. Clicking on any ID # along the left column of the listing will open a page to edit that contact, and clicking on any of the column headings along the top of the list will re-sort the list by that column.
